USED CAR LOT 19
Until the day he died, which was not long ago, Joe OíGorman referred to his car as ìla machine.î A linguist would tell you that there was no word for ìautomobileî (or ìwrenchî or ìsteamerî for that matter) in Joeís dialect, which combined 18th-century French with English. This lack of a French word for ìautomobileî is ironic given that Lot 19 has long been the site of an automotive dealership and repair shop. Why not expand the business? For certain, the residents of LaSalle canít live without cars, and there is very little competition in the area for gently used vehicles. At a time when we seem to be pressured into the front seat of new vehicle every 3 or 4 years, opening a used car lot is an act of ecological responsibility, and therefore a practical way for Lot 19 to ìgo green.î
