SANDLOT 19
Statistics show that Windsor and Essex County are home to the least physically fit population in all of Canada, based on rising trends in obesity and teen smoking. This might be counteracted by providing suburban children with increased access to playgrounds. The fields of Lot 19 have hosted many a sporting event over the years, including muskrat hunting, tractor-drawn flatbed trailer surfing, and the odd melon-tossing contest. This proud athletic tradition can be traced back to the Lacrosse games played on the land by the Huron Indians (see Slots 19). To continue this tradition, the land--which is literally quite sandy--should be preserved as a sandlot site for spontaneous sporting events, from summertime baseball to winter hockey games played on homemade rinks. LaSalle may not need a recreation complex after all.
