Lot 19 Times

LOTUS 19

The lotus flower opens in the day and closes at night to descend beneath the murk of a swamp or marsh. What better symbol for a therapeutic garden situated in the midst of a suburban quagmire? People in the community need methods to escape the dark, satanic mills of a postmodern, technological lifestyle. The therapy garden provides an opportunity for patients to come down to earth, get their hands dirty, and attentively nourish fragile life forms. Like the mythical, lotus-eating comrades of Odysseus, patients will temporarily forget all their cares. But they will live out their days in activity and not in rest.

Let us alone. Time driveth onward fast,
And in a little while our lips are dumb.
Let us alone. What is it that will last?
All things are taken from us, and become
Portions and parcels of the dreadful past.
