HOT 19
Kingsville and Leamington are home to more than 1,253 acres of greenhouses. This explosive industry will ensure that, within a generation, consumers will no longer recognize a tomato, pepper, or cucumber that hasnít been grown in a sterile, hydroponic environment. Why would any serious gardener continue to waste his valuable time toying with dirt and weather? Lot 19 is an excellent location for a massive greenhouse complex. In fact, the lot was once home to one of the largest greenhouse operations in Essex County. During the 1920ís Maurice Renaud had as many as 10 boiler-heated greenhouses, fueld by rumrunning revenues. As it turns out, running greenhouses was less lucrative than running whiskey. But this business logic no longer applies now that we have such comforts as hydroponics and Homeland Security.
